ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದರ ಈ ಜೈತ್ರಯಾತ್ರೆ ನಿಜಕ್ಕೂ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಪವಾಡವೇ ಸರಿ. ಪರದೇಶಗಳ ಪರಿಚಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲದ, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ- ಬಟ್ಟೆಗಳ ಪರಿವೆ ಇಲ್ಲದ, ಎಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ಹೇಗುವುದು, ಏನು ಮಾತನಾಡುವುದೆಂಬುದರ ಅರಿವಿಲ್ಲದ, ಕೊನೆಗೆ- ತಾನಾರೆಂಬ ಪರಿಚಯ ಪತ್ರವೂ ಇಲ್ಲದ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ದಿನ ಬೆಳಗಾಗುವುದರಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶ್ವವಿಖ್ಯಾತನಾಗಿದ್ದು ಪವಾಡವಲ್ಲದೆ ಮತ್ತೇನು?

ಕೇವಲ 23 ವರ್ಷಗಳ ಬದುಕು. ಅಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲೇ ಇತಿಹಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಶಾಶ್ವತ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಪಡೆದ ಭಗತ್ ಸಿಂಗ್ ಹುತಾತ್ಮನಾಗಿ ೮೦ ವರ್ಷಗಳಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ ಈಗಲೂ ಯುವಜನರ ಆರಾಧ್ಯ ಮೂರ್ತಿ, ಅದರಲ್ಲೂ ಒಂದು ಸಮಾನತೆಯ ಸಮಾಜದ ಕನಸನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವವರಿಗೆ. ಧೈರ್ಯ, ಸಾಹಸ, ತ್ಯಾಗ, ಜತೆಗೆ ತಾತ್ವಿಕ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಜನಮಾನಸವನ್ನು ತಟ್ಟು ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ ಅವರ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಅಮರಗಾಥೆಯನ್ನಾಗಿಸಿದೆ. ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯಶಾಹಿಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ರಾಜಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ಹೋರಾಟ; ಕೋಮುವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಜಾತಿ ದಮನದ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಎಂದೂ ಕುಗ್ಗದ ಪ್ರತಿರೋಧ; ಭೂಮಾಲಿಕ-ಬಂಡವಾಳಶಾಹಿ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಜಗ್ಗದ ಹೋರಾಟ; ಮತ್ತು ಸಮಾಜವಾದ ಮಾತ್ರವೇ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಮಾಜದ ಮುಂದಿರುವ ಏಕೈಕ ಪರ್ಯಾಯ ಎಂಬ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಚಲವಾದ ವಿಶ್ವಾಸ.

ಅಧಿಕಾರ ಚಲಾಯಿಸುವವನಿರುವ ಕಡೆಯಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ, ಅಧಿಕಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಭಟಿಸುವವನೂ ಇರುತ್ತಾನೆ.."

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಮದ ಕುರಿತಂತೆ ಬರೆಯುವಾಗ, ಮಾತನಾಡುವಾಗ ಪುರುಷ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬರೆಯುವುದು ರೂಢಿಯಾಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಪುರುಷ ರಷ್ಟೇ ಪರಿಣಾಮಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರೂ ದೇಶ ವಿಮೋಚನೆಗಾಗಿ ಜೀವ ತೇಯ್ದಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬುವುದನ್ನು ನಾವು ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿಯೇ ಮರೆತುಬಿಡುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಒಂದೊಮ್ಮೆ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರ್ತಿಯರ ವಿಷಯಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದರೆ ನಮಗೆ ನೆನಪಾ ಗುವ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಝಾನ್ಸಿರಾಣಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಬಾಯಿ, ಸರೋಜಿನಿ ನಾಯ್ಡು, ಆಯನಿ ಬೆಸೆಂಟ್, ಚೆನ್ನಮ್ಮ, ಅಬ್ಬಕ್ಕ ಮುಂತಾದ ಬೆರಳೆಣಿಕೆಯ ಹೆಸರುಗಳು ಮಾತ್ರ ಇಂತಿರುವಾಗ ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ಹೋರಾಟಗಾರ್ತಿಯರ ನೆನಪಾಗುವುದೇ ದೂರದ ಮಾತು. ಮುಸ್ಲಿಂ ವನಿತೆಯರೂ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಂಡಿ ದ್ದರೆ!!? ಎಂಬ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ ಭರಿತ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆ ಹಲವರನ್ನು ಕಾಡ ಬಹುದು.
